Studio Highlights: March, 2025
March became a month of transition — a foot in two worlds, both home and away. Between deadlines and departure gates, I boarded a flight bound for the Philippines — the start of seven months living and working abroad. The warmth hit instantly, as did the feeling of homecoming. For the first time, I entered through the ‘Philippines Passport’ line instead of ‘Foreigner,’ a quietly grounding moment that set the tone for what was to come.
Work didn’t pause; it simply shifted time zones. My Domain columns continued from hotel rooms and family dining tables, while my camera filled with new scenes — palm-lined islands replacing gum trees, and local stories waiting to be told.

The month began with a cover feature for Domain’s March 1 edition – a Byron hinterland home that dared to go against the grain.
In a region where whitewashed coastal homes reign, ‘Glenwood’ offers a striking departure – a sprawling sanctuary set across 12.95 hectares of Byron hinterland. Unapologetically rich in colour, this home is designed to embrace life in all its forms.
What began as a simple 1980s brick structure has been transformed into a character-filled retreat – where moody hues balance Byron’s bright light, interiors tell a story and every detail reflects its owners’ creative vision.

Here are some of my other favourite listings I featured in my What To See This Weekend and Coast & Country columns for Domain, highlighting standout properties throughout Sydney and regional NSW.
24 Hartley Street, Rozelle
Every detail of this architect-redesigned home speaks to its clever transformation, from the industrial-chic steel kitchen to the living and dining space with clerestory windows and glass concertina doors. “Remodelled by Good Manors, the backyard and pool enhance its connection to the outdoors,” notes the agent. “Across three levels there’s plenty to discover – including the upper floor’s views of the CBD skyline.”
5A Holly Road, Burradoo
Down a stately tree-lined drive reminiscent of a grand country estate lies this rare Highlands retreat where history and potential coexist. “Two original 1930s buildings have been transformed into elegant homesteads, featuring sunlit living areas, rustic interiors and covered verandahs,” says the agent. “With concept plans for a four-bedroom pavilion-style home, this estate can embrace its past – and cast a vision for an exciting future.”
62/543 New South Head Road, Double Bay
A triumph of modernist design, ‘Murilla’ is a landmark 1960s gem by Aaron Bolot housing just 15 residences. “Sharing the sixth floor with only one other apartment, this striking sub-penthouse has been transformed by award-winning architect Ninotschka Titchkosky,” notes the agent. “Encased in glass, it captures an ever-changing spectacle from every room – with awe-inspiring harbour views including all the icons of the city skyline.”
229 Glenarvon Road, Lorn
‘Lorn Rose Farm’ is an iconic estate in the Hunter Valley offering endless potential with its restored Federation farmhouse, manager’s cottage, converted stables, creative studio and a working flower farm. “The main home pairs original charm with modern flair – featuring a wrap-around verandah and a cathedral-ceilinged kitchen,” says the agent. “From hosting weddings to farm-to-florist ventures, this property is a rare gem.”

Before taking off, I filed one last Design Digest for Domain’s Prestige magazine. Aptly titled Step Outside, it became a fitting sign-off as the column took a brief pause during my travels.

POOLSIDE BLISS The King Cabana, crafted for enjoyment under the Australian sun by KING, boasts a versatile shade canopy mounted front-to-back or side-to-side, offering tailored privacy and protection. Two sumptuous sun lounges provide added comfort, each fitted with an adjustable headrest.
BALCONY BEAUTY The HiRay Chair, designed by Ludovica & Roberto Palomba for Kartell stands out for its elegant lightness and stylistic flair, ideal for outdoor areas and balconies. Crafted from painted galvanised steel, it comes in black, rust, sage, and white, with and without armrests.
ALFRESCO MOMENT Elevate leisurely alfresco lunches with the Jack Dining Armchair by DOMO. This chair blends a chic woven rope backrest with a cushioned foam seat pad, supported by a robust powder-coated aluminium frame for utmost strength and comfort.
COURTYARD CHARM Bringing some of her most celebrated indoor designs outside, Sarah Ellison's debut outdoor collection has transformed familiar pieces into reimagined outdoor gems, from the Muse sofa to the Ava armchair and two-seater sofa, perfect for adorning picturesque courtyards.

This month, I crafted two stories for BresicWhitney’s Journal that capture the poetry of heritage and transformation – from a reimagined Balmain East terrace to a grand Potts Point residence where history lingers in every hallway.
10/86 Darling Street, Balmain East
When a young buyer and her mother stepped into 10/86 Darling Street, Balmain East, it was more than just another property inspection – it was a full-circle moment almost four decades in the making. In 1987, her parents had walked through this very building, inspecting an upstairs apartment with an identical layout.
12 Nicholls Avenue, Haberfield
Built in 1902 along a wide tree-lined cul-de-sac, 12 Nicholls Avenue holds a unique place in Haberfield’s history. Originally a maternity hospital, its wide hallways and doorways were designed to accommodate hospital beds. Later, it became a nursing home before evolving into a communal house of sorts.

My Out Of Town column took readers to Forster, NSW – a seaside town where space, surf and family life intertwine.
