Island hopping in Greece: Discovering the magic of Milos

After tackling a five-hour ferry from Paros, we stepped onto the island of Milos, just the place my introverted self was craving after these months of travelling.

Firstly, the island is relatively small and less touristy than some of the other Greek islands, which meant I could find plenty of opportunities to escape the crowds and find solitude. Secondly, the island's laid-back atmosphere welcomes you to move slowly and idly, meaning there's no pressure to see or do everything, freeing up time to relax and recharge.

One of the things that made our trip to Milos so magical was the ability to leisurely beach hop between the many coves and shores that dot the island, which we did with ease from our hotel, Santa Maria Village Resort & Spa. Each beach seemed to have its own unique personality, from the hidden cove tucked away to the side of Klima Beach to the smooth white cliffs of Sarakiniko Beach that appeared to be from another planet.

But the beauty of Milos isn't just limited to its beaches. The island is also home to several charming villages offering a taste of that authentic Greek island life. When we were not swimming or sunbaking, we were exploring the winding streets of Plaka, the island's capital or enjoying a meal by the sea. A couple of memorable meals were had at Medusa, listening to the splash of waves while eating seafood, and at Astakas Cafe Restaurant, watching sunsets and sharing a bottle of light white wine.

When we first landed in Greece, a local told us that Milos was his favourite of all the islands — it's now mine too.
